The Tea Oracle

You come across a tea table strewn across its top with blue flower petals. Six gold spoons rest inside a single teacup, full of tea, in its center. The smell of the tea is strong -tannic, earthy, it wrinkles your nose in a pleasant way. You can’t explain it, but somehow you know you must lean over and gaze into the teacup. Something there is important to you right here, right now.

There seems to be a whole universe slowly rotating just beneath the surface of the tea. It’s inviting you inside and you’re just about to take a sip when the ancient spirit of a tea flower emerges from the depths, as fresh and unstained as if it hadn’t just been steeping in tea.

You have found the Tea Oracle, and it has a story to share with you today.

The Tea Oracle says:

Truth is a powerful thing, and polarizing in its potency. Where some gather around to share it who want to see clearly and move cleanly, it repels others who would rather stay in the dark with illusions and avoidances that give them comfort. But since you are here, you seek the truth or, probably more accurately, the truth seeks you.

When you have the truth of a thing, it bestows the power of that knowing onto you. Suddenly, you can make decisions that seemed murky before. Suddenly, you start to see more truths all around you. Suddenly, you can see how it all lays out and fits in together. It’s not always an easy tonic to swallow, but it is one that clears clogged pathways and puts an end to fumbling around in uncertainty. The serum of truth is a freeing one.

Your ability to speak truth and your readiness to uncover it makes a lot of people uncomfortable, especially the ones who make excuses for the falsehoods they’ve grown attached to. But for others, your way of naming what is plain and actual lets them see themselves and their lives more clearly. Like, ohhhhhh that’s what is happening here. Even when everyone around them has been trying to convince them of a different reality, they can see things for what they really are when you say the thing out loud.

When you speak truth, you inspire others to say their things out loud, too. Like a group gathered around a tea table, sharing information so everyone knows what the deal is, no one is left in the dark, and everyone can make their own choices with the benefit of the full cup of knowledge at hand.

Truth doesn’t care about politeness, proprieties, unwritten rules of society, supposed-tos, shoulds, or other made up niceties that fakery often loves to hide behind. It cares about what really happened, what you really experienced, what was really said and done and the impact of it all.

There’s a timing to truth also. It has its own energy. It will make itself known. And, if it’s been pushed down long enough, it will probably come out in the middle of something very important and at the most non-ideal moment possible. Try as some people might, it doesn’t stay submerged forever. Better to let it have light and air the first time it asks for it.

Yes, there are layers and nuances and individual versions of any truth. That’s part of its nature too: everyone must determine their own truth. Truth can be slippery - what was true before may not be true now with new information, new unfoldings, new this or that. And multiple things - even conflicting things - can be true at the same time.

So you compare facts. You swap stories. You hear someone else’s truth and decide if it’s part of your own, too. If it rings true to you. You pay attention, you discern, you try on. Then you decide for yourself - again and again and again.
