The Swan Oracle
You come across a large, expansive lake in the middle of the night. Thunder rumbles through the sky that’s glowing a strange but beautiful color of purple. Lightning strikes illuminate the clouds and reflect the magenta sky onto the water in front of you. You can’t explain it, and you know it’s not even really a safe thing to do, but somehow you know you must step closer to the lake. Something there is important for you right here, right now.
You step gingerly toward the water’s edge, careful not to get your feet wet. As you’re making your way through the weeds and marginal plants that line the shoreline, an ancient swan spirit glides into view. She begins a dance as the lightning jags bright across the sky, twirling and swirling. Her arabesques and pliés create ripples in the water’s surface, a light show to accompany her performance. And you realize in a jolt just like the lightning around you: She is dancing just for you.
You have found The Swan oracle, and it has a story to share with you today.
The Swan Oracle says:
You have people wondering how you do it. Over and over again, you seem to do the impossible. And not only do you prove it’s possible, you make it look easy. From the outside, it looks like you never break a sweat, like you’re not even trying at all.
That decision they said would never work out. It worked out. That choice you made that they raised their eyebrow at. It was the right one. That journey you undertook they thought would never go anywhere. It’s taking you far beyond what anyone had planned for you - even if you’re still en route to the final stop.
They say the world doesn’t work like XYZ. ABC is too hard. Yada yada isn’t something people do. And then, you do it. It does work like for you. It’s not too hard to accomplish. It’s like your world is built different from theirs.
Even things they were told to fear - that they were convinced were risky or dangerous or ill-advised. Those work out for you. The things that others think should have no earthly way of working out, you make it look like it’s just all in a regular Tuesday.
What they don’t see is the dance you’re dancing beneath the surface. The trust you’ve put in where your feet fall and where the next step will take you. The center of balance you’ve cultivated between yourself and the world and the universe. The relaxing into what’s unfolding all around and giving that form, shape, movement, life. Rather than trying to make a life from what’s not there, you make one from what is.
There is real work happening within you. Real work going on underneath. It’s just not the kind of work they’re used to seeing.
They know the story of: You struggle, you hustle, you strive, you push, and eventually you get some things to work out that aren’t maybe exactly what you wanted but everyone around you says they’re good enough for you.
You live the opposite story: of consistent, continuous knowing that every situation presented to you - no matter how simple or how intense - is for you to use, channel, and harness for the outcomes you desire.
That’s difficult to cultivate and even more difficult to maintain. But since it doesn’t look like urgency or chaos or flailing or desperation, very few will ever see your paddling, your pointed feet, your movements under the glassine water you seem to float across.
And so while you seem a little not of this world to others who don’t dance the same dance you do, there’s a certain paradox about it all. The grace you live in, the elegance you have found within yourself, the reason you have become ethereal in this way - it is due to how in concert with the world you actually really are.
When circumstances veer diagonally, you bend too.
When the wake shifts, you extend your leg in that direction.
And even when the storm comes in, you don’t run in terror. You dance the thunder dance. You sway in time with the wind and trees.
You allow the currents to make you electric, too.
