The Oyster Oracle

A collage art oracle card showing an oracle presented by a blue deity emerging from the sea hand wearing a gold cuff with a pearl on an old compass map background. The Oyster. Found Oracles.

You find yourself walking along the shoreline, watching waves lap close to your feet and then back out to sea. You’re combing the beach for small precious finds: bits of sea glass, tiny fossils, and interesting pieces left behind. As you stare at the shells and the stones and the sand, something catches your attention from the corner of your eye, out in the water.

There’s a swirling, a churning, and a funnel-like formation rises out of the sparkling blue surface, just beyond the breaker waves. You can’t explain it, but even though it looks like a literal waterspout is about to take shape in front of you, you feel at peace. Something feels like it’s about to be revealed, something important for you right here, right now.

The water swells and as you watch, it forms a giant hand, like the palm of Poseidon himself. You stand still as the hand rolls in with the tide and reaches toward you. There’s something in its fingers, something it is offering to you. You nod in acceptance and as the hand dips back into the surf, the ancient spirit of a saltwater oyster washes ashore by your feet. You can tell without being told - or maybe you were told, psychically somehow in its being presented to you: This one contains a pearl.

You have found The Oyster oracle, and it has a story to share with you today.

The Oyster oracle says:

The world is opening to you with endless possibilities. It only asks that you be open in return, to what it wants to bring to you. It’s going to be something unexpected, something you didn’t even ask for, and something absolutely aligned to the kind of beauty you’ve been seeking this entire time.

Since you are here, you have the kind of boundless mind, heart, and spirit to receive this kind of gift. Not everyone can, you know. That’s why they think the world doesn’t just offer people nice things. They can’t imagine it, so they can’t lean into the belief of it, so they can’t be open to it, so they can’t receive it.

For you, though, you imagine things that don’t exist yet, because why couldn’t they exist? You desire things that you haven’t seen happen yet, because why wouldn’t they happen? Your vision for life expands beyond what’s right in front of you, and you’re willing to see what’s inside of spaces that others would leave shut.

That’s why the world is cracking itself open to you now. You are choosing to believe that something incredible could happen to you, that you could find something rare and precious right where you stand. That sounds fluffy to people who don’t realize the absolute grit it takes to believe that the world not only can bring you precious gifts, but that it wants to deposit extraordinary opportunity right at your feet.

Have you ever shucked an oyster? It’s not a task you can go about halfheartedly if you want to do it successfully. It takes a certain confident determination, a pointed intention, and a knowing of your own ability to wield the knife and twist the shell apart. In fact, that’s the other half of the famous oyster saying. To paraphrase Shakespeare, who surely won’t mind as a master improvisor himself: The world is, in fact, your oyster. Which you decide to open. If you’re Shakespeare, with a sword. Others, might use an oyster knife.

You can’t know what you’ll find inside until you lean in over the shucking table, commit to the opening, and allow yourself to find out. You could get a big, briny oyster. You could discover a small bonus crab, which is considered good luck. Or, of course, you could find a pearl - which themselves come in varied sizes, hues, and rarities.

Anything can and will happen because you’re truly open to it. You’re not trying to calculate how to receive what you want. Instead, you are letting the right opportunities present themselves to you, interacting with them when they do, and allowing them to surprise you.

That’s how you stumble onto treasure. That’s how you find the thing that no one else knew existed. That’s how you fling open a world where anything is possible for you, one where you never know what wonders are waiting for you to crack open the shell.
